Biografia
Em Maio de 1983 a banda solo do vocalista Ronnie James Dio, lança seu primeiro Album, "Holy Diver", que é considerado a obra-prima da fase solo de Ronnie, o clássico foi considerado pela Warner Bros. como um dos mais bem vendidos.Ronnie chama para sua banda nessa época, um grupo de musícos de primeira: seu ex-companheiro no Black Sabbath, Vinny Appice.O jovem e virtuoso Vivivan Campbell.E o seu ex-companheiro de banda na época do Rainbow, Jimmy Bain.Neste álbum Ronnie gravou os teclados em estudio, mas deixou a cargo de Claude Schnell a função de tocar teclados nos shows, apartir do começo de 1984.
No ano seguinte, no dia 2 de Janeiro de 1984, Dio lança seu segundo álbum, "The Last in Line", e a banda parte para uma turnê mundial.Seus show tinham cenários grandes e estravagantes, que contavam com dragões cuspindo fogo, lasers, e encenações.No ano seguinte já em 1985 dio lança seu terceiro álbum, "Sacred Heart" no dia 15 de Agosto.A turnê, desse terceiro LP rendeu o quarto disco de sua carreira solo, um ao vivo chamado de "Intermission", que surpreendeu os fãns com uma faixa inédita, tocada ao vivo.
Ainda em 1985 Dio que era tambem um grande produtor adorou a ideia de seus companheiros de banda Jimmy Bain e Vivian Campbell e aproveitou o sucesso de "We Are The World" para reunir diversos músicos do rock (por volta de 40 músicos incluindo, Rob Halford,Don Dokken,Geoff Tate, Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrian Smith e Dave Murray entre outros), nos estúdios da A&M Records em um projeto chamado "Hear'n Aid" que visava arrecadar fundos para crianças na áfrica. Eles gravaram uma música juntos como em We Are The World, no estilo rock 'n' roll, o nome da musica era "Stars".
Em 1986 Vivian Campbell deixa a banda Dio, para se unir ao Whitesnake, logo ele foi subistituido por Craig Goldy do banda Giuffria. E no dia 21 de Julho de 1987, eles lançaram seu quarto álbum de estúdio "Dream Evil", Ronnie afirmou que nunca gostou muito desse álbum, pois o considerava muito inferior ao seus antecessores.
No começo de 1988 Craig Goldy deixa a banda. Ronnie anúncia em 1989 um concurso para selecionar um novo guitarrista, o escolhido surpreendeu, pois tinha apenas 16 anos na época, seu nome era Rowan Robertson. Bain, Appice, e Schnell deixam a banda, e logo forem substituidos por Teddy Cook, Simon Wright e Jens Johansson. Em 1990 a nova banda lança o álbum "Look Up The Wolves". Ronnie demite Rowan por achar ele imaturo na época. Logo depois Ronnie deixa a banda, e se junta novamente com seus ex-companheiros no Black Sabbath.
Após sua saída novamente do Black Sabbath, Ronnie trouxe Appice devolta para a banda, e convidou o baixista Jeff Pilson, o guitarrista Tracy G, e o tecladista Scott Warren. Nessa fase da banda, Dio adotou um som mais moderno, decepsionando grande parte dos fans, eles lançam os álbums "Strange Highways" em 1994, e "Angry Machines" em 1996. Vale apena citar que Angry Machines é considerado por muitos dos fans de Dio o pior álbum da historia da banda, crédito a Tracy G que foi demitido alguns anos depois.
Em 1998 Dio lança um álbum ao vivo chamado "Inferno: Last in Live", repleto de ótimas músicas, da fase solo, Rainbow e Black Sabbath.Pórem o álbum foi alvo de forte criticas, direcionadas novamente a Tracy G, que não era nen um pouco fiel as músicas antigas. Ronnie tinha certa empatia com o jovem, achava seu som atual, mas ele era vaiado sem todos os shows, e por fim deixou a banda. Em junho de 1999, Ronnie pede o retorno de Graig Goldy, que aceita voltar a banda. Tracy G pede para voltar como guitarrista de base, porem o proposta e vetada por Ronnie.
No ano de 2000 Dio lança o álbum "Magica", que foi um grande presente para os fans, pois não apenas marcava uma volta por cima, depois dos seus dois ultimos álbums, mas tambem a volta de Simon Wright e Jimmy Bain a banda, o álbum lembrava o som antigo da banda, e os teclados soavam mais modernos, o projeto foi aprovado não somente pelos fans, mas tambem pelo críticos. Na turnê seguinte, houve um conflito entre Goldy de um lado, e Ronnie e Bain de outro. Goldy não safistasia as nessecidades da banda, pois tinha muitas obrigaçoes familiares que o comprometiam.Goldy deixa a banda em Janeiro de 2002 e é substituido por Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake), guitarrista que Bain conheceu durante as gravações de um tributo para o Metallica. Por causa da chegada tardia, Aldrich não participou muito do nono álbum de estudido de Dio, "Killing The Dragon", que foi escrito em sua maioria por Ronnie e Bain. Killing The Dragon foi muito aceito pelos fans, e trazia um ar bem como os primeiros álbum do Dio.Aldrich permanesceu na banda ate abril de 2003, quando se juntou novamente ao Whitesnake e foi substituido por Goldy que voltou a banda.
No dia 7 de Setempor de 2004, é lançado no Estados Unidos, o décimo álbum da carreira solo de Dio, "Master Of The Moon" foi o título do álbum, este álbum era para ser a segunda parte da trilogia do Magica que foi prometida por Ronnie. Jeff Pilson foi convidado para as gravações do álbum, mas não pode permanecer para a turnê, e foi substituido por Rudy Sarzo.
Em 2005 e lançado em CD "Evil Or Divine: Live in New York City" que foi previamente lançado em DVD no ano de 2003. No mesmo ano, dio partiu em turnê mundial, e teve a ideia de montar novamente o set de Holy Diver, a ideia fez tanto sucesso que ele descidiu lançar o álbum ao vivo, "Holy Diver Live". O álbum foi lançado em cd duplo, sendo que no primeiro cd ele cantava o álbum Holy Diver inteiro e no segundo sucessos variados de sua carreira.
Biografia de Ronnie James Dio
Ronnie James Dio é americano e seu verdadeiro nome é Ronald Padavona. Assumiu o nome de "Dio" em homenagem a seus familiares italianos. Cantou e tocou baixo na sua primeira banda mais importante, ELF (onde gravou 2 álbuns). Outras bandas no seu início de carreira foram: Vegas Kings (formado por colegas da sua escola) que mais tarde mudou o seu nome para Ronnie and the Rumbles e depois deste, para Ronnie and the Redcaps. Tocavam em bailes universitários, etc. Mais uma vez mudam o nome da banda para Ronnie Dio and the Prophets. Mudaram o nome mais vezes, The Eletric Elves, depois para The Elves e finalmente ELF.
Foi chamado para cantar no Rainbow de Ritchie Blackmore ex-Deep Purple, onde gravou quatro álbuns. Após deixar o Rainbow, foi convidado pelo guitarrista Tony Iommy para integrar o posto de vocalista no Black Sabbath. Gravou ao todo três álbuns e mais um após sua volta à banda em 1992. Saiu do Black Sabbath em 1983 devido a problemas de ego e uma "suposta" sabotagem na mixagem final de Live Evil (ao vivo do Sabbath). A tradicional sonoridade do Sabbath com a acentuação da linha de baixo, se ouvia nitidamente mais fraca, enquanto os vocais de Dio era mais "alto". Supostamente, foi esta a sabotagem alegada na época. Contudo, as divergências musicais, bem como a promoção do vocalista com seu projeto solo, possam ser fatores muito mais convincentes que a sabotagem
No mesmo ano após sua saída do Black Sabbath, 1983, lança aquele que para muitos é um dos melhores discos de hard rock de todos os tempos, Holy Diver. Nele estão Vinny Appice que também tinha saído do Sabbath e acompanhou Dio, seu antigo companheiro de Rainbow Jimmy Bain e o excelente guitarrista Vivian Campbell (atual Def Leppard). Holy Diver foi aceito em grandes proporções e deixou clássicos como a faixa-título, "Stand Up and Shout", "Don’t Talk to Strangers" e a mais famosa "Rainbow in the Dark".
Embalado com o sucesso atingido logo de cara, Dio solta mais um em 1984 chamado The Last in Line. Simplesmente maravilhoso, trazia a mesma fórmula de Holy Diver. Foi este álbum que levou a banda à uma enorme turnê mundial seguido do seu primeiro vídeo oficial. Os músicos são os mesmos mas no álbum ainda há um tecladista chamado Claude Schenell, e com isso lançam clássicos como a faixa-título, "We Rock" (um dos maiores sucessos), "Breathless", "Evil Eyes", etc.
E para provar que Dio era mesmo um fanático em duendes, dragões, magos, reis, rainhas e arco-íris, lança Sacred Heart em 1985. Um belíssimo trabalho que continuava a sustentar a banda como uma das melhores dentro do gênero, na época. A formação e a fórmula permanecem as mesmas desde 1983 e nisso podemos reparar a versatilidade do guitarrista Vivian Campbell com toda sua harmonia. De cara notamos que seus grandes sucessos foram "King of Rock and Roll" (a única do disco que ainda é tocada atualmente), a faixa-título, "Rock and Roll Children", "Just Another Day" e "Fallen Angels". Desta turnê também sai um vídeo chamado Sacred Heart Live.
Em 1986 sai um EP ao vivo chamado Intermission com seis músicas onde as que se destacam são "King of Rock and Roll", "We Rock" e "Rainbow in the Dark" e uma faixa inédita de estúdio "Time To Burn" apresentando o novo guitarrista Craig Goldie que substituiu Vivian Campbell durante a tour de Sacred Heart.
Em 1987 é lançado então o álbum Dream Evil, que é conhecido como um álbum problemático pelo próprio Dio. Apesar de ter havido alguns problemas, as músicas continuam sendo delirantes. "Night People", "Dream Evil" (uma das melhores), "Sunset Superman", "Faces in the Window" e a linda "All The Fools Sailed Away" se destacam.
Depois de um sucesso contínuo e dos problemas em 1987, Dio sumiu do mapa e voltou a aparecer em 1990 com Lock up the Wolves. Sua formação é totalmente diferente das passadas. Os músicos são Rowan Robertson, um garoto inglês de apenas 18 anos de idade e que segundo o próprio Dio, foi selecionado após um teste com (diz a lenda) milhares de guitarristas. Mas independente disso, Rowan mostra uma incrível versatilidade e rapidez em seus solos, mostrando que não estava para brincadeira. Para a bateria foi chamado ninguém menos que Simon Wright (ex-AC/DC), um novaiorquino chamado Teddy Cook para o baixo e um dos maiores tecladistas do metal, o sueco Jens Johansson (ex-Malmsteen e atual Stratovarius).Não foi seu melhor disco mas com certeza destacam-se a porrada "Wild One", "Hey Angel", a bela faixa-título, "Walk on Water", "Born on the Sun" e "My Eyes".
Em 1992 Dio volta ao Black Sabbath e grava mais um álbum chamado Dehumanizer bastante pesado com destaque para "Computer God" , "TV Crimes", "Time Machine" e "I", mas infelizmente alguns problemas (que todos já devem saber) acabaram com a reunião da banda. Neste mesmo ano sai uma coletânea intitulada Diamonds The Best Of com vários clássicos da banda Dio.
Após isso o "nanico" volta com Strange Highways em 1993, que seguia a mesma linha de Dehumanizer. Não foi um de seus melhores álbuns, e os problemas com a separação do Black Sabbath o deixaram meio desanimado. Mesmo assim podemos destacar algumas músicas bem legais como "Jesus", "Mary & The Holy Ghost", a faixa título, "Firehead" e "Give Her The Gun". A formação era Dio nos vocais, Tracy G (guitarra), Jeff Pilson (baixo) e Vinny Appice (bateria). Também foi nesse ano que a banda veio a São Paulo tocar.
Em 1996 sai Angry Machines, e mais uma vez Dio mostra o quanto gostou de ter feito junto ao Black Sabbath, Dehumanizer (1992). Chegou a declarar que não falava mais de reis e rainhas por que preferia tratar da realidade. Algumas músicas de Angry Machines que marcaram foram a porrada sonora de "Don’t Tell the Kids" (onde Vinny Appice simplemente detona sua bateria!), "Institutional Man", "Hunter of the Heart" (a única que foi tocada nos shows aqui no Brasil) e "Dying in America". A banda estava composta por Dio nos vocais, Tracy G (guitarra), Jeff Pilson (baixo) e Vinny Appice (bateria).
Vieram ao Brasil para tocar junto com Bruce Dickinson, Jason Bonham Band e Scorpions no final de 1997. Os fãs o aclamaram, mas criticaram duramente o desempenho do guitarrista Tracy G. Neste mesmo ano saiu uma coletânea chamada Anthology. Em 1998 sai um CD duplo ao vivo chamado Dio’s Inferno - The Last in Live, que traz clássicos como, "Holy Diver", "Don’t Talk to Strangers", "The Last in Line", e "The Mob Rules" (homônima do disco do Black Sabbath), "Mistreated" (do Deep Purple) e "Catch the Rainbow" (do Rainbow) entre outras. Sem dúvidas foi um sucesso bem vendido no país. Algo relativo à volta do Rainbow tinha sido mencionado mas com a morte do baterista Cozy Powell, a notícia permaneceu apenas como boato.
Em 2000 lança Magica, um álbum conceitual que traz de volta o estilo classico de Dio compor, com letras sobre Magia, Dragões e Bruxas. Sons como "Fever Dreams" (bem ao estilo "Holy Diver"), "Turn to Stone", "Challis" (arrasadora!), "Losing my Insanity", e a balada "As long as it's Not About Love", conquistaram em cheio o público.
Sua banda contou com a volta do magnífico Craig Goldie (guitarra), o seu fiel escudeiro Jimmy Bain (baixo), Simon Wright (bateria), Scott Waren (teclados). No final de 2001 Goldy decide deixar a banda, alegando problemas familiares e para seu lugar é recrutado o guitarrista Doug Aldrich. Com novo line up, Dio entra em estúdio e em 2002 sai Killing the Dragon que procurou repetir a mesma forma do anterior, porém com um pouco mais de rapidez e peso. Destaques: "Push", "Scream" (bem ao estilão Heaven and Hell!) "Throw Away Children" e é claro a faixa titulo (candidata a novo classico!).
Em 2003, sai seu primeiro DVD oficial, Evil Or Divine. E para 30 de agosto de 2004 está previsto o lançamento de seu novo trabalho de estúdio, "Master Of The Moon", que contou com o seguinte line-up: Ronnie James Dio no vocal, Craig Goldy na guitarra, Jeff Pilson no baixo, Simon Wright na bateria e Scott Warren nos teclados; porém, quem ocupará o posto de baixista na turnê será Rudy Sarzo.
Em 15 de julho de 2006, Dio voltou ao Brasil, desta vez, trazendo a tour Holy Diver Live. Em comemoração aos 23 anos de lançamento do clássico disco Holy Diver. Uma apresentação impecável e magnifica do Deus do Hard Rock.
Em 2007 reuniu-se com os antigos companheiros de Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler e Vinny Appice, para excursionarem na promoção do álbum "Black Sabbath - The Dio Years". Neste álbum estão grandes clássicos como "Neon Knights", "Die Young", "Falling Off The Edge Of The World", "The Mob Rules" e três músicas novas compostas especialmente para este disco: "The Devil Cried", "Ear in the Wall" e "Shadow of the Wind".
Para promoverem a coletânea os quatro se reuniram sob o nome "Heaven and Hell" para uma turnê mundial de um ano. Um desses shows será lançado em CD e DVD ainda em 2007.
