O Judas Priest é uma banda inglesa que foi criada em meados de 1969, em Birmingham. O primeiro disco da banda ("Rocka-Rolla") foi lançado em 1974 pela Gull Records. A partir do disco Sin After Sin, o terceiro da banda, todos os seus trabalhos foram lançados pela Columbia/Sony até 1990. A banda vendeu cerca de 40 milhões de discos em mais de 30 anos de existência, influenciando um número significativo de bandas de heavy metal e hard rock durante o processo. Podemos citar dentro dessas os mais diversos e diferentes grupos como Slayer, Pantera, Skid Row, The Donnas, Rollins Band, Angra, Iron Maiden, Metallica, entre outros.
Adoptando peso, velocidade, temática violenta e roupas de cabedal com detalhes em metal, os Judas Priest fizeram história. Para a sua época, a banda tinha uma sonoridade nova, o que dificultou um pouco o crescimento da banda. Durante anos a banda não conseguiu sair do underground.
A banda Judas Priest pode ser considerada uma das precursoras do heavy metal moderno. Tratou-se da primeira banda a unir o peso e temática violenta criados pelo Black Sabbath à velocidade de grupo como o Led Zeppelin. Foram também responsáveis pela adoção das roupas de cabedal com adereços de metal cromados entre os apreciadores de rock.
